Meredith Spidel of The Mom of the Year is Getting Possessed!

August 21, 2014 By Kathy Radigan

Meredith is getting possessed

Welcome to the 16th and FINAL installment of Getting Possessed with Kathy and the Dishwasher!

I can’t believe that it’s been a year since the Dishwasher and I first learned just how many crazy appliances there are in the world. And of course I have had the best time introducing you to some of my most favorite bloggers and people. (In case you missed any of my past victims you can find them all Here)

I am thrilled to wrap up my series with the amazing Meredith Spidel of The Mom of the Year. I met Meredith last year in an online writing group and then had the thrill of getting to meet her in person this year at BlogU. She is one of the nicest bloggers and people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. She is also one talented writer!

Meredith I always love to find out how people came up with their blog names. What made you decide to name yours, The Mom of the Year?

Total spoof. As first-time moms, my friend and I enjoyed reporting our latest epic parenting fails (aka “Mom of the Year” moments) to each other and it was kind of fun.

What do you think makes a mom a “Mom of the Year?”

While this began as a way to find humor in our fails, MOTY has also come to embrace the moments when parents do something really cool. You know that occasional, “Dang, I totally aced preschool drop-off today” feeling? It’s important to celebrate that too.

I totally agree!

Meredith in honor of you being my 16th victim, what would your 16 year old self think of your life today?

My 16 year old self was an idiot, so I have no idea what she’d think of my life. She’d probably be too busy mooning over some hottie to notice.

What are the three posts that you feel best sum up you and your site best?

Breaking Down Yoga Pants because it is true and still makes me laugh. The Drowning Stage because it captures how very real I believe the struggle of parenthood can be. And finally,Inner Sandcastle, because I still try to be the “Cool Mom” all the time.  And even though I may fail, I do my best to laugh about it.

I love all three of them. Each one shows an aspect of motherhood that I think most of us feel at one point or another.

Meredith as you know the Dishwasher loves to sneak in these interviews. This month the crazed appliance would like to know, as a mom of two little kids what household appliance could you never go a day without?

Coffee machine. A life well-caffeinated is the safest bet.

What is the oldest appliance that you own?

We still have my husband’s hair dryer from high school. I have cycled through about 3 newer ones since we got married, but keep this on hand for emergencies. While I remain slightly fearful it will set my hair on fire, the trusty thing never dies.

What is the newest?

We just got a new refrigerator this summer! It is so pretty and clean that I want to squeeze it. (I may have a few times…)

If you could create an appliance to do the one job you hate the most, what would it be?

I despise cleaning. I need Rosie from the Jetsons to move in. ASAP.

And the all important question, have you ever had a possessed appliance?

Our toaster oven glows at me and refuses to turn off. My husband doesn’t believe me. On one particularly evil day, I unplugged it and set it outside on the driveway. I’m not lying.

That is brilliant!! Thank you for giving us such as excellent appliance story to end our series with!

Meredith If a genie appeared and granted you three wishes, what would they be?

More sleep

More sleep

More sleep.

I’m sorry I’m lame, Kathy. I’m just really tired.

What does being possessed mean to you?

Owned by something.

What possesses you right now?

One thing only–God.

Is this something that possessed you five years ago?

Yup.

What do you think will possess you five year from now?

Same thing.

Many thanks to Meredith for being the sweetest of 16th victims!! Do yourself a favor and check out The Mom of the Year. You can also follow her on Twitter,  Google +, Facebook and Pinterest.

This is a great post and so glad to have found it via our group – Women of Midlife. Since you have a love/hate relationship with your dishwasher, you might get a chuckle from this post of mine about dishwashers. Hope you enjoy it. http://retireforthefunofit.com/dinner-cooked-dishwasher/

I too have the pleasure of knowing Meredith! What a gal, there are not enough words to tell you how I feel about her, Dr. J, and her darling children! She helped me get my business going with her blog piece & I will ever be grateful. She has remained in my world long after the business aspect has been gone. Why, because that is the way Meredith is, true, loving, & just plain special.

LOVE! 16-year-old me was a total idiot, too. And, really, a bit of a skank. Although maybe that was 18-year-old me. Either way. Dumb. Yay to new refrigerators! And the Jetsons!
