You Are Not Going Crazy…it’s not Sunday!

July 13, 2011 By Kathy Radigan

Shock of all shocks I ‘m posting and it’s not Sunday! Why, do you ask? Well, Laura Sauer, a wonderful mom has asked me to do a guest post on her very important and personal blog:

Families Coping With Infant Stroke

http://familiescopingwithinfantstroke.blogspot.com

This post is very personal and recounts some of my initial feelings when I first realized my beautiful daughter Lizzy had something wrong with her. For those of you who expect a little laughter along with my posts, I have to say, I’m not very funny here.

Like Laura and her family, our family has been forever changed by having a member who has a neurological disorder. Laura’ infant son suffered a stroke in utero. Lizzy’s extensive brain damage is most likely caused by genetic factors.

Though our stories are different we both feel the more information and real families people meet the harder it will be for the world to dismiss those who may be different. I am so grateful and honored that Laura asked me to guest post. Please stop by and let me know what you think!!

I have the most amazing readers and always appreciate the support you give me week after week! Thank you! Much love to you all.

I don’t know if I was supposed to comment there or here. I can’t imagine what life is like for you or your friend Laura. I admire both of you for your willingness to put it all out there for the rest of the world to see/hear.

The closest I have ever come to dealing with a special needs child was when my two-year old son (now 24) broke his left femur and had to be in a full body cast for 7 weeks. The looks, the unspoken comments, everything was hard.

With that being said, I apologize for any rude things I may have said to others in situations similar to yours or Laura’s, whether just unthinking or unknowing.

Children with special needs bring so much joy into the lives of those they touch that it somehow lessens the pain that parents and loved ones go through as we help them along their journey!

I applaud you for your strength and your faith and your honesty! ~Love & Hugs, Mitzi

I admire your courage. And I know that you don’t always feel courageous. So for those moments/days/months when you struggle to just get up in the morning and faith seems a concept not a reality, borrow some courage from dear friends. Your gifts are amazing and your willingness to share your journey is precious.
