Alisa of Ice Scream Mama is Getting Possessed!

April 17, 2014 By Kathy Radigan

Alisa getting possessed large

After experiencing some technical difficulties with the Dishwasher earlier this week that made posting my regular Sunday post impossible, it’s great to be back here and welcome you to the 12th installment of Getting Possessed with Kathy and the Dishwasher.

I started this series 8 months ago in order to share with my readers some of the amazing writers that I have had the pleasure of getting to know in my 3 + years of blogging.  I always have fun getting to know these bloggers a bit better and of course the Dishwasher loves to hear about other possessed appliances that reside across the country.

This month I’m thrilled to introduce you to Alisa of Ice Scream Mama. Whether she is cracking me up with a piece such as  Sorry, but you really look terrible in that shirt. Oh and fix your hair. You’re welcome or she is tugging at my mom heart with her essay, All Hail Mama’s Boys. she never fails to brighten my day.

Alisa has been blogging since July of 2012 and has had pieces in What to Expect, Mamapedia, and The Erma Bombeck Writing Workshop. She also has two essays in the book, Life Well Blogged, and was in the top 4 in the 2012 Blogger Idol contest.

Well I have to ask, what is the story behind the name of your blog?

It’s really not that interesting. At the time, I had no idea what I was doing or what a blog really was. My sis-in-law and I started throwing together words that reflected me. Ice Cream and Mama were easy picks.

Alisa, what are three pieces that you feel best define you and your site?

Oh man! That is so so tough! Aaaackk! Okay, if I had to choose three with a cone to my head, I guess I’ll pick:

Hineni – Here Iam – Because It mixes a little bit of magic, humor and my late grandmother

Like the fingers on my hand – Because it’s always about my boys

Thar she blows – Because I have pieces on there that are more serious as well.

You use your life as a married mom to three boys as a lot of the inspiration for your blog. How does your family feel about starring in your essays?

What? They know? You told them??! Oh crap!

As a Family Life blogger, are there some things you and your husband have decided you will not write about?

Well, I generally restrict my husband’s appearances to baseball craziness. I would like to stay married, thank you.

Alisa your blog name is Ice Scream mama, I’ve got to know, what is your all time favorite ice cream brand and flavor?

That is almost like choosing a favorite essay! I have so many! Right now, I am loving Edy’s Slow Churned Rocky Road, but I have a soft spot for Bloomingdales PB and Coffee yogurt and just can’t pass up Carvel Cake. Excuse me, now I think I need a trip to my freezer!

As you may know, I always let the Dishwasher ask a few questions. This week the crazed appliance would like to know as a mom of three active boys what is one household appliance you could never, ever live without?

My Keurig!! I could never have the patience to manage a day without it!

Would you rather have year without your Keruig or a year without any ice cream?

Could Monet live without a paintbrush or Mozart without music? Ice Scream Mama cannot live without her ice cream.

Have you ever had a possessed appliance?

Well, my dryer only works when it feels like it.

Sounds possessed to me! You have made the Dishwasher very happy!

Alisa what does being possessed mean to you?

It means being totally consumed with something you love.

What possesses you right now?

Writing, my boys, reading, my weight and ice cream.

Is this something that possessed you five years ago?

Yep. Same.

What do you think will possess you in five years?

Probably the same. I’m very very boring, loyal and consistent. I’ll probably be sitting in exactly the same spot, wearing exactly the same outfit 5 years from now.

Many thanks to Alisa for having fun with me and the Dishwasher! Make sure to follower her on, Facebook,  Twitter and Pinterest. You will be very glad you did!

Kathy, you’re such a wonderful writer. It’s an honor to have you featuring me!! Thank you!! And to repay you, I’ve come up with a great solution to your dishwasher problems – only eat from the ice cream tub like I do, and there’s no dishes to wash! See? Genius, right? 🙂

Thanks for all your help Janine!! I have a confession to make to you and Alisa, I do not own a Keurrig and I don’t think my husband would ever want one. He is a die hard coffee bean grinder/blender person. I don’t think he could live if he didn’t grind his beans, after going all over NYC to find the best beans! Lol! xo

well, i can’t argue a man who grinds his beans, but since i am far too lazy for that, i have to rely on my keurig and random trips to dunkin. 🙂

Thank you so much for introducing me to Alisa today! I can’t wait to read her pieces!! As someone who also values her Keurig above all other appliances (and someone who will also most likely be sitting in the same clothes 5 years from now) I know I am in for a treat!! –Lisa
Ps. We’ve been having ALL SORTS of technical glitches this week too, blergh. It’s been that kind of a week.

You will totally love Alisa’s work, she is right up your alley!! I can’t believe I have never introduced you guys before!! As for the technical issues, mine were caused by my router, which I guess in one way was good, because everybody else could get on my site, but bad for me, because I could not!!! Totally drove me nuts!! xoxo Thanks so much for dropping by!

It is so fun to meet you, Alisa! I’ll be visiting . . .
In the past, many of the interviews I read were . . . how shall I say this . . . boring. Kathy has introduced an entirely new genre. The fun/funny/entertaining/interesting/hilarious interview. All hail Kathy. And the dishwasher!
